After conducting post-doctoral research at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, Ms. Kuno established R-Tech Ueno Ltd. in 1980's. Achieved the first commercialization of prostones, a class of functional fatty acids with therapeutic potential. After success in Japan, she moved the headquarters to Japan, where she became founder and CEO of f Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, where she also contributed in the research and business development of prostones, and succeeded in commercializing Amitiza, a medicine effective in treating chronic idiopathic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. Additionally in 2012, co-founded VLP Therapeutics, LLC, which seeks to develop revolutionary vaccines. As a social entrepreneur, she founded S&R Foundation where she is a Executive Board member and CEO. Ms. Kuno is also the board member of the Mansfield Foundation of John Hopkins University. Ms. Kuno has obtained various awards in past years, and in 2017, was awarded the Avon Awards to Women 2016 Grand Prize, and the title of Harvard Business School club of Japan Business Stateswoman of the Year for 2016. She is listed in Forbes as Top 50Self-Made Women in the US. Has a PhD from Kyoto University (1982), and has completed the credit course from McDonough School of Business in Georgetown University.
